Lil Boosie Pleads Guilty to Drug & Weapons Charges, Sentenced to 2 Years

Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie entered a guilty plea earlier today (September 22) on drug and weapons charges stemming from an arrest that occurred last October.

Local Louisiana news network WAFB reports that Boosie was scheduled to go to court this coming Monday, but pleaded guilty today in an effort to avoid trial. He was sentenced to two years in jail, but depending on his behavior he may only have to spend one year behind bars.

“I’m just ready to get all of this behind me and get further along in my career,” he told the station. “I plead guilty, it was in my best interest.”

As previously reported Boosie, born Torrence Hatch, was arrested in Baton Rogue on October 22, 2008 after authorities’ smelled marijuana coming from his car. Upon searching his vehicle, they found a firearm along with a bag of marijuana.

In related news Boosie’s new CD, Superbad, hit stores last Tuesday. The disc has sold around 50,000 copies in its first week.

To show you can't keep a good man down Lil Boosie is hard at work on a new album before he is officially sentenced to two years in prison in November.

Now he’s in the studio putting the finishing touches on a new untitled album in addition to an upcoming mixtape with Young Jeezy.

“I am looking forward to putting this all behind me and would like to thank my fans and industry fam for their continued support of me and Superbad,” Boosie told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “I need y’all to know that I am still recording and working on a new record that will come out Fall 2010 and I plan to be home in time to promote it. I am also in the studio working on a new mix tape with Young Jeezy and set to release the movie, Ghetto Stories: The Movie by the end of the year. Y’all ain’t ‘gon miss me. Believe that.”

The rapper’s latest album Superbad – The Return of Boosie Bad Azz recently landed at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 and #4 on the Top Rap Albums chart.

Lil Boosie will be back in court on November 9, when he will formally be sentenced.

Representatives for the rapper told AllHipHop.com that Boosie may only have to serve one year in jail due to “Good Time” allowances afforded by the Department of Corrections.

“I am grateful to God and all my fans out there that supported me all these years,” says Lil Boosie. “I do this for y’all all day, everyday.”
